Laparoscopic Surgery is a form of minimally invasive surgery (also sometimes referred to as “pin hole surgery”), which results in better patient outcome and recovery. Dr. Mirhashemi and his team is world renown in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery, providing the latest technologies in minimally invasive surgery to our patients. Dr. Mirhashemi has lectured, and performed live surgery, nationally and internationally in laparoscopic benign and malignant gynecologic conditions.
This form of minimally invasive surgery opens up immense possibilities for patients, as it allows a faster recovery, less pain and analgesic (narcotic pain medications) requirements, shorter hospital stay, better aesthetic results, and a quicker return to normal function. The surgeon is able to perform procedures without the trauma and pain of a large incision.
Dr. Mirhashemi has lectured, and performed live surgery, nationally and internationally in laparoscopic benign and malignant gynecologic conditions.
The procedure uses a small incision (0.5cm) in the naval, which is not visible to the naked eye, to place a telescopic camera inside the abdominal and pelvic cavity. This allows the surgeon to clearly and closely view reproductive and other organs via a video monitor. Other specially designed surgical instruments are inserted through two or three very small abdominal incisions, which only require a single stitch or a band-aid following the completion of the procedure.
Some of the procedure that Dr. Mirhashemi does laparoscopically include:
- Laparoscopic hysterectomy
- Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (allowing for preservation of the cervix)
- Laparoscopic removal of fibroids
- Laparoscopic treatment of gynecologic malignancies, including treatment of uterine cancer, cervical cancer, and some ovarian cancers
- Laparoscopic removal of ovarian cysts
- Laparoscopic removal of ovarian masses
